About Us
We have a different approach to “Risk”
When was the last time you visited a website or read a book that didn’t include the word Safety in the title?
There are few if any safety training syllabus available that promote looking, reading or researching beyond traditional topics, compliance, controls, legislation, measurement, policing and management will only get this discipline so far.
“The speed at which we find explanations for things that happened makes it difficult for us to learn deep truth. And the deep truth is that the world is much more uncertain than we feel it is.”
– Daniel Kahneman
Our approach is to expand the understanding of being human, what we do and why we do it reaches far beyond the current cognitivist view of being the sum of our inputs and outputs. Learning about the brian and the mind (See video: One Brain, Three Minds), the conscious and unconscious, habits and heuristics will help take Safety beyond the confines of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math world view.

World Views
A person’s or a group’s fundamental way of understanding and interpreting the world, encompassing beliefs, values, and assumptions about reality, often influencing thoughts, actions, and relationships. These can be personal, cultural, religious, or philosophical, and can include things like scientific beliefs, ethical frameworks, and political ideologies.

Cognitivist View
Focuses solely on how the brain processes information, emphasizing internal mental processes like thinking, memory, and problem-solving.

One Brain and Three Minds (1B3M)
Humans are embodied, enactive and make most of our decisions unconsciously, based on heuristics and the past experiences.
“There is nothing noble about being superior to some other person. True Nobility lies in being superior to your previous self.”
Ancient Eastern Philosophy

In 2007 Frank was awarded the Safety Man of the year award by the Transportation and Commercial Motor Vehicle Insurance Industry and was featured in Oil Week Magazine later that same year.
In the years since he has continued to advocate for the worker, recognizing many of our biases set safety practitioners at odds with those who do the work, with a focus on Name, Blame, Shame and Retrain investigation outcomes. Realizing the current thinking in North America wasn’t on track to help us understand decision making or the person as a whole being led to discovering the Social Psychology of Risk (SPoR) discipline, and the theories of conscious and unconscious decision making with Dr. Robert Long and the Center for Leadership and Learning in Risk.
Social Psychology of risk applies to the knowledge of social arrangements, decision making and judgement used in tackling risk. Language, social discourse and culture are slowly being recognized in pockets of industry and the study of The Social Psychology of risk helps us develop solutions in a humanizing way. Much of the current philosophy around “safety” is still hung up on the behaviorist/cognitivist view of humans as a “factor” in the problem.
Understanding how the Mind choreographs decisions, how social interaction influences the way we process information, how the unconscious influences conversations, sifts information, facilitates decision making and why we switch to automaticity has changed his approach to communication, connection, relationships and learning. Our need for social connectedness, validation and acceptance transcends race, gender and world-views.
